Domus Maria

Guesthouse Domus Maria has been renovated to sustain the unique spirit and distinctiveness of Vilnius old town. All 39 rooms of the guest house creates special atmosphere as they are arranged in the former monastery cells and provides a spectacular views of cosy old town. There is a closed court yard in the back of the Guest house witch adds quietness and privacy.

Guesthouse Domus Maria has an extremely convenient location in the very heart of Vilnius Old Town. Building of the guesthouse is a part of a complex of buildings dated 16th century. The architectural ensemble consists of the Gate of Dawn with the Chapel of St. Virgin Mary the Mother of Grace and the miraculous painting of Mary, the early-baroque Church of St. Teresa and St. John of the Cross. The whole ensemble has an irregular shape and earlier was a part of the defensive wall of the city. The Gate of Dawn is also a gate to Vilnius Old town, so to stay in a guest house Domus Maria means to start your trip to Vilnius from the historical beginning.

The building of guest house Domus Maria was built in 1621-1627 and was used as a monastery of Discalced Carmelites. In the ground floor of the main building was a refectory, a storage room, a barn, a bakery and a kitchen. The other levels had monk cells. The rooms of the monastery where decorated with paintings and frescoes, that remained only in the Great Hall. In the end of 17th century the monastery was destroyed.
